The short version
- Libba has no AI in it. Your books are never sent to, processed by, or used to train any AI.
- Your books are yours. Libba never sells your data or shows ads.
- Books save on your own device as you work. They only go to the cloud when you choose to save them there.
- Nobody opens or reads your books unless you ask for help and say it's okay.
- Email hello@libba.app any time to get a copy of your data or have everything deleted.
This policy explains what information Libba collects, why, and what you can do about it. Libba is run by LMJ Media, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom (“Libba”, “I”, “me”). If you have any questions, email hello@libba.app. It’s read by a person, not a bot.
What Libba collects
Your account
When you sign up, Libba stores your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the name and profile picture on your Google account. Sign-in is handled by Clerk, so your password is never seen or stored by Libba.
Your books
Libba is built to keep your work on your own device:
- On your device: as you work, your books, images and settings are saved in your browser’s own storage on that device. This is what lets Libba work offline.
- In the cloud, when you choose: when you save a book to the cloud, Libba stores its text, chapters, settings, cover and images so you can open it on another device. Folders, author profiles (pen names, bios, photos and links), saved template presets and images you add to your image library are stored the same way.
Exporting happens in your browser: your finished EPUB is built on your device, not on a Libba server. Libba records the time of each export so it can stop misuse.
Payments
If you buy Pro, payment is handled by Polar, which acts as the seller (the “merchant of record”). Your card details go to Polar and its payment processor, never to Libba. Libba stores only what it needs to unlock your plan: which plan you have, when it ends, Polar’s reference numbers for your purchase, and how many payments you’ve made (so yearly subscribers can be upgraded to Lifetime after three).
Emails you send
If you email Libba for support, feedback or to join the beta, your message and email address are kept so I can reply and follow up.
The website
- The homepage loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google’s servers and shares your IP address with them.
- If you join the email list, your email address (and first name, if you give it) is stored with Kit, the email service. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- The free EPUB Checker runs entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.
- Libba doesn’t use advertising or cross-site tracking. If visitor counting is added in future, it will be a privacy-friendly service that doesn’t follow you around the web, and this page will be updated first.
What Libba does not do
- Use AI, at all. Libba has no AI features. Nothing in Libba uses AI to import, format, check, store or export your books, and your work is never sent to an AI service or used to train one. Every tool in Libba follows fixed rules you can see and control.
- Sell or share your data for advertising or marketing.
- Read your books. I don’t open your books. The only exceptions are if you ask for help with a specific book and give permission, or if the law requires it.
Cookies and browser storage
Libba uses only what it needs to work: sign-in cookies set by Clerk to keep you logged in, and your browser’s storage to save your books on your device. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, so there’s no cookie banner.
Services that help run Libba
Libba relies on a few trusted services. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job:
| Service | What it does | What it handles |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Sign-in and accounts | Email, name, profile picture, sign-in details |
| Convex | Database and file storage | Books and images you save to the cloud, your plan details |
| Netlify | Hosting the website and app | Standard web request information, such as your IP address |
| Polar | Payments, tax and receipts | Payment and billing details |
| Google Fonts | Website fonts | Your IP address when the homepage loads |
| Kit | The email list (optional) | Your email address and first name |
Some of these services store data in the United States or other countries outside your own. They’re required to protect it to the standards of the law that applies.
How long data is kept
- Books saved to the cloud stay until you delete them. Deleting a book in Libba also deletes its cloud copy and images.
- Your account details stay while your account is open.
- Payment records may be kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, even after you close your account.
- Books on your device stay there until you delete them or sign out (signing out removes Libba’s saved data from that device).
Your rights
You can ask, at any time, to:
- get a copy of the information Libba holds about you;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- delete your account and everything stored with it;
- object to or limit how your information is used.
Email hello@libba.app from the address on your account and I’ll respond within 30 days. Pro users can also download a backup of any book from inside the app.
Depending on where you live, laws such as the GDPR (in the UK and EU) or state privacy laws (in the US) give you these rights formally. You can also complain to the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or your local data protection authority, though I’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
Children
Libba is not meant for children under 16, and I don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has signed up, email me and I’ll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, I’ll update the date at the top and, for bigger changes, email account holders before they take effect.
